The Holiday Giveback

The Holiday Giveback

As we slow down and spend more time sharing food, gifts, and gratitude, it is also our hope to uplift and care for each other along the way.

The winter season is a joyful and special time, but it also brings a heavy burden for those who are most at risk. Low-income communities of color, single mothers, migrants, and especially indigenous communities experience serious food inequality that is only exacerbated by the harsh winter season.

A recent study of Indigenous tribes in northern California & southern Oregon found that 92 percent of the households had a lack of access to nourishing, healthy, and culturally appropriate food.

As we slow down and spend more time sharing food, gifts, and gratitude, it is also our hope to uplift and care for each other along the way.

This holiday season, we've partnered with Indigenous Re-Generation and Sea & Soil Collective to support projects that directly provide food relief + food sovereignty education, by and for tribal communities. $1 from each of our Holiday Gift Boxes is donated directly to Paradise Valley Farm in San Diego, California, to help supply weekly CSA boxes to 40 families on the San Pasqual Reservation & supports a paid farming apprenticeship program for local indigenous youth.

The broader goal of the work between IRG and Sea + Soil is to support tribal sovereignty, while also amplifying language and cultural revitalization projects. They are currently working on a larger initiative based at Paradise Valley Farm, that will provide educational opportunities both within the Indigenous community and for the greater San Diego community.

Paradise Farm

They have set a goal of raising $50,000 to support this project’s maintenance and expansion, including:

  • Maintaining the Tribal Farm Apprenticeship Program
  • Launching a 200 hour regenerative organic farming education program
  • Organizing monthly plant walks & land management workshops led by Indigenous Elders
  • Managing the installation of tribal at-home gardens

We believe that it is our honor and responsibility to support the Indigenous people native to the land that we presently call home. We invite you this holiday season to support the projects at Paradise Valley Farm, by donating here!
